UMBRIA
ITaly Retreat
Magical usually sums up this retreat! Held three years in a row, this yoga retreat has always been equal parts interactive, invigorating, tranquil, natural, inspiring and always tasty! Participants retreated to Monestevole, to connect with nature, in the Umbrian hills, at a beautiful 15th century sustainable farmhouse villa; surrounded by olive groves, oak forests and a vineyard! The farmhouse boasts a sun-filled practice room overlooking nature, with bamboo floors and a wood burning stove; perfect for amazing classes and meditating! We partook in offsetting our carbon footprint with farming activities, attended the annual sustainability workshop that always enlightens and changes the game, and hiked into the forest everyday! Energy is solar, food and wine are local and water is welled; making getting back to basics incredibly easy and joyful. Monestevole farm also offers an outdoor salt water pool, magical animals, including the Buddha-like dogs Wow and Dollie, who lead all our hikes, charming rustic-chic rooms with original cobblestone and wood beams, and lots of quaint indoor and outdoor spots to rest up and recharge from with others or alone.
2019 Senegal
Africa Retreat
Situated in the westernmost part of Africa, along the Atlantic Ocean, Senegal Africa is hip and happening but not yet overloaded or spoiled with tourists. Retreaters rested and recharged to the sounds of morning prayer, and waves and coconut tree leaves swinging in the coastal breeze. The 7-night all inclusive stay held at a boutique style lodge with eight traditional Senegalese huts, offered a stylish rustic chic accommodation, with locally sourced food and drink. With a ton of relaxing nooks and an outdoor yoga platform by the ocean, we soaked up the views and sounds from the sea and local community, and took our yoga off the mat with some important excursions that are indigenous to our African home. Nearby optional adventures included visits to a slave museum on Gorée Island, tours to the local Mbour fish market, sailing the mangroves, horseback riding, and a safari visit.
